Mr. Wynn Harris, age 68 of Calhoun died at 3:00 PM, Friday, January 09, 2009 in Gordon Hospital following several weeks of illness.
Wynn was born in Taylorsville, May 8, 1940, a son of the late W.P. “Dub” Harris and Beatrice Taylor Harris. He was the retired executive vice president of Georgia Textile, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun.
Wynn is survived by one son Ritchie Harris and his wife, Lisa of Calhoun; one daughter, Cindy Thornton and her husband Scott of Calhoun; one brother, Doug Harris and his wife Gayle of Cartersville; two sisters, June Rikard and her husband Mark of Adairsville and Gay Allen of Macon; five grandchildren, Ashlyn Thornton, Kylee Thornton, Hannah Mathis, Hollis Mathis, and Presley Harris, special friend Pat Hughey, and the mother of his children, Charlotte Harris of Calhoun.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 11 at the First Baptist Church of Calhoun with the Reverend Doug Harris and Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. The body of Mr. Harris will lie in state from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church preceding the funeral. Burial will be in Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers are Larry House, Larry Black, Jim Silvers, Jerry Brumbelow, Lester Rampy, and Greg Bennett. They are asked to meet at the church at 12:45 PM Sunday. Honorary pallbearers are Ron, Craig, Jeffrey and Kevin Harris, Dustin Rikard, Jerron Rikard, Jimmy Prater, and Robbie Allen as well as members of the Georgia State Patrol and fellow law enforcement agencies. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 PM Sunday.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Gordon County Animal Shelter or the New Echota Pet Advocacy Group.
