Winona Early Brooks, age 84 of Calhoun and formerly of Rome, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Archbold Medical Center.
Winona was born on February 22, 1932 in Rome, GA to the late Joseph Albert Early and Willie Amanda Maude Dellinger Early. Winona grew up in the Coosa Community and lived there until 1956 when she moved to Calhoun. She was an Alumna of Berry College and Vanderbilt University with a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Winona was a librarian for the Calhoun City School Systems and later on for the Gordon County Library. She attended the Calhoun First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edwin Glenn Brooks.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sherrie Brooks of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Dany Sleep; three grandchildren, Alex Brooks, Jessica Brooks and Dylan Dunn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 13th at 11 AM at Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12th from 6 PM until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
