Mr. Willie B. Powell 89 of Fairmount Highway, Calhoun, died early Sunday morning in Gordon Health Care following an extended illness.
He was born in Gordon County on Dec. 12, 1920 son of the late Arthur Cylvester and Lena Hitt Powell Boston. He was a lifelong resident of Gordon County; was a retired employee of Echota Cotton Mill; and was a veteran of WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janette Meadows Powell and a sister, Ila Mae Parker.
Survivors include two daughters; Janice Graham, Cynthia Jones and her husband Randall all of Calhoun, a devoted sister-in-law; Marie Meadows Worley of Calhoun; sister-in-law Glennese Meadows Thorton of Dalton; grandchildren, Zane Jones and his wife Teresa, Jamie Graham and his wife Lydia; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Allison Jones; nieces and nephews; special care giver, Joyce "Mickey" Adams; current and past caregivers, Janis Ward, Dorothy Wilson, and Judy Thurman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 27 at the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are members of the Dalton American Legion Post. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8:00 P.M., Monday.
