William Arnold Land

Monday, August 23, 2010 Mr. Arnold Land, age 88, of the Sugar Valley community. Died Monday morning August 23rd at his residence. Arnold was born in December 19, 1923 in Young Harris, Georgia. Son of the late Arthur and Mary Ann Woody Land. Prior to his retirement he was employed in the carpet industry and was a member of the Russell Hill Baptist Church. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Odena Land. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Erma T. Land of Sugar Valley. One son, William Land of Dalton. His daughter, Earlene Gordy of Ringgold. One brother, Melvin Land of Blue Ridge. Three sisters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday August 25th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hall officiating. At the conclusion of the funeral service Mr. Land will be taken to the Old Union Baptist Church in Young Harris to lie in state from 3pm until 4pm with interment to follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Larry Williams in charge of graveside rites. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 5 until 8pm.
