William "Bill" Harley Knight

October 6, 2010 Mr. William (Bill) Harley Knight Jr., age 80, of Mount Alto Road, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Knight was born December 14, 1929, in Gordon County, GA. He was the son of the late Harley Knight and Agnes Holsomback Knight. After his graduation from Rome High School, he attended Bradford University in Peoria, Illinois; upon graduating college he moved to Macon, GA and worked as a civilian for Warner Robbins Air Force Base, prior to taking over his father's business, Knight's Memorials, and operated the company until retirement. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, he was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church, a fifty-three-year old member of Rutland Masonic Lodge #278 F. & A.M., a talented pilot, and an active volunteer at the Rome Airport. Survivors include Mr. Knight's wife, Jackie Knight, his son and daughter-in-law, Terry Knight and Kim Knight; his son and daughter-in-law, Danny Knight and Joanie Knight; his son and daughter-in-law Chris and Brook Jefts; son and daughter-in-law Bobby and Vicki Jefts; his grandchildren, Justin Knight, Katie Knight, Sarah Madaris and her husband Jason Maderis, Haila Jefts, Harrison Jefts, Holden Jefts, Shawn Jefts, and Cameron Jefts. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday at Thomas Funeral Home in Calhoun with Reverend Monty Stallins officiating. Music will be arranged by Kim Knight and Steve Grayson. With interment to follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are Charles Lee, Frank Perkins, Jose Gallegos, C.F. Callahan, David Owens, Justin Knight, and Cameron Jefts. Mr. Knight's Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Knight will lie in state at Thomas Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Rome Airport. The family would like to offer their sincerest thanks to the Hospice staff, especially Sharon and to the 3rd floor Oncology nurses, CNAs, food service workers, and Dr. Harbin, for their kindness, care, understanding, and support during this time. Thomas Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. William (Bill) Harley Knight Jr.
