William “Bill” Johnson, Jr., age 80 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016.
Bill was born December 13th, 1935 in Gordon County. Son of the late Claude Johnson and Mattie Lou Orr Johnson. He had retired after 31 years of service from the Atlanta Gas Light Company and was a veteran of the Georgia National Guard. Bill was a lifelong resident of Gordon County, graduating from Belwood High School in 1954. He went on to study agricultural engineering from Southern Tech. Bill used his skills and education to become a builder, carpenter and developer. He was the original developer of Spring Valley Subdivision and Oothcalooga Heights Subdivision. Bill was the owner of Bill’s Boats which sold and serviced used boats and parts. He loved fishing and scuba diving with his son and family. Bill was also an avid pilot flying around the southern eastern part of the county.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Betty Rickett Johnson, his brother M.L. Johnson and sister Louise Wells.
Survivors include his son Tyron Johnson and his wife Tammy of Calhoun, three grandchildren, Brooke Johnson, Brandi Johnson Brumlow and her husband Jake and Swayze Johnson. One great-grandson Mitt Brumlow, and his sister-in-law Dixie Johnson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 30, 2016 at 2pm at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Pearson officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Kenny Herron. Pallbearers serving will be Larry Johnson, Bill Water, Gary Wells and Bryan Phipps.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8pm.
