Mr. Wilburn Charles Scott, 96, of the Scottsville Community, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on March 21, 2017. He was born in Plainville, GA, May 8, 1920, son of the late Myrton Miles Scott and Tennie Boswell Scott. One word that would sum up his life would be Faithful. Mr. Scott was a devout Christian and member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Plainville. He was at church every time the doors were open never missing Sunday School in 58 years up until his declining health in 2014, but continuing to attend regularly until the past few months. In his younger years, he served as a Deacon, Junior Boys’ Sunday School teacher and a Coach for Royal Ambassadors baseball teams. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Upon his return, he owned and operated the Scott’s Service Station in the Scottsville Community up until the 1980’s. He was a custodian and lunch room monitor for 15 years at W.L. Swain Elementary until he retired at the age of 90. It was a job that he took great pride in, where he could show the love of Jesus, through him, by just opening a milk carton for a student or planting beautiful flowers for the staff to enjoy. Students and staff loved him back by simply referring to him as “Papaw.” In 2013, he was recognized as a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge of Georgia, Plainville Chapter. He was a devoted, loving husband to his late wife, Clara Mae, visiting her in the nursing home 3 times dai-ly to feed her and just spend time with the love of his life. Many would ask why he goes to see her when she doesn’t know who he is. He would simply say “But I know who she is.” He was a devoted and loving father to his children, Kathy Brown and the late Barbara Worley. He always loved to read his Bible daily, tend to his farm, looked forward to his weekly date nights or visits with his family, as well a love for the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Bowman Scott; a daughter, Barbara Worley; a great grandchild, Thomas Smith; brothers; Infant Myrton Miles Scott, Clarence Scott and Wofford Scott (Bernice); sisters; Rosa Lee Landrum(M.C.) and Rebecca Scoggins(Buddy); brother in law; Bill Hamilton. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Brown and her husband, Larry W Brown; son in law, Donald Worley; a sister, Corine Hamilton; sister In law, Joyce Scott; grandchildren; Joan and D.C. Kinman, Jean and Steve Williams, Jan and William Smith, Judy and David Craig, John Worley, Walter and Fonda Brown, Monica and Tony McGuire, Joseph and Laura Brown, and Amanda and Paul White; 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; devoted niece, Sandra Swinford; and other nieces and nephews. Special recognition and appreciation is given to Cynthia Leatherwood with Gordon Health Care and Jerrie McDougle and the Floyd Heyman Hospice Care Team. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 pm at Fellowship Baptist Church of Plainville with Rev. Danny Pelfrey and Rev. Ron Bankson officiating. Fonda Brown and Sherri Wilson will be in charge of music. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23rd from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Fellowship Baptist Church prior to the service. A private graveside service will be held at Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Grandsons-in-Law. Honorary Pallbearers will be “his boys” which include men that were in his Junior Boys’ Sunday School Class and Members of the Royal Ambassadors (RAs) Baseball Teams. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to the Family Advocacy Program of W.L. Swain Elementary, 2505 Rome Rd, Plainville, GA 30733 and the Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
