Wilbur Dallas (Dallie) Hall, MD, MACP, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 26th. He was born on June 26, 1938 in Calhoun, Georgia, the son of Ruby Koon Hall and Wilbur Dallas Hall Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marguerite (Peggie) Holt Hall, his daughter Ashley Hall Mestl, of Mt Vernon, NY, and 7 grandchildren. His sister, Shirley Moore, preceded him in death. Dr. Hall graduated magna cum laude from Emory School of Medicine in 1969 and became board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He joined and remained on Emory's academic faculty from 1969-98 when he chose to retire as Professor Emeritus. During this period he was Director of the Division of Hypertension, the Hypertension Research Clinic in Decatur, and the General Clinical Research Center of Emory University (1988-97). He was a prolific writer, having authored four books, 119 journal articles, and 77 book chapters, primarily on high blood pressure. 26 of these publications (16 as first author) occurred after retirement in 1998 when he continued to be an active writer, manuscript reviewer, and Associate Editor of an indexed medical journal. He was the recipient of 17 competitive clinical research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and 58 clinical research grants from the pharmaceutical industry. He was one of three founders of the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB) in 1985. He was Past President of the Georgia Heart Association, and a Master of the American College of Physicians. Peggie and Dallie grew up as sweethearts in Calhoun, Georgia, where he was an athletic star and she a Homecoming Queen and Miss Gordon County. They were married July 4, 1992, in Maui. They have had a wonderful life together and enjoyed the pleasures of domestic and international travel (Spain, Egypt, Greece, France, Sweden, Hawaii, England, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and West Indies).
