Sunday, July 19, 2009 Mr. Weston Everett “Ebb” Wright, age 94 of Calhoun died at 6:55 P.M. Saturday, July 18 in Cartersville Heights Nursing Home. Ebb was born, July 16, 1915 a son of the late Weston Andrew ”W.A.” Wright and Cora Franklin Wright, and lived most of his life in Gordon County. He was a veteran of WW II, U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands and was a retired employee of Lockheed Aircraft. His first wife , Beulah Grizzle preceded him in death January 19, 1980. Ebb was a devoted member of the local Senior Center and a member and Deacon of the New Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his first wife and parents he was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Gladys Hurd, Linda Angle, Edna Robers, Tom Wright, Ralph Wright, Trammell Wright and Kenneth Wright. Ebb is survived by his wife, Alma Lair Wright of Calhoun; three daughters, Peggy Smith and her husband, Gene of Calhoun, Joan Mathis and her husband Rayford of Cartersville, Linda Slade and her husband Dr. George Slade of Tallahassee, Fl., one brother, Mac Wright and his wife , Shirley of Calhoun, one sister, Janelle Wood Nesbitt of Calhoun; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren one step-granddaughter; Zelda Gregg of Calhoun and two step-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday July 21st. from the New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar Bearden, Rev. Leroy Whitfield and Rev. Clifford Free officiating. Intement will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Pallbears serving include David Smith, Jimmy Mathis, Michael McCanless, James Herron, Ben Smith, Charles Greeson. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of New Zion Baptist Churdh, Harold Davis, Sam Poarch, Roy Chastain, Darnell Stone and Otie McNeese at the Senior Center and all these people are asked to meet at the Church at 10:45 A.M. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. on Monday evening.
