Wayne F. Bennett, age 92, of Calhoun. Pass away Saturday morning September 10th.
Wayne was born April 7, 1919 in Gordon County. Son of the late Roy and Alma Moore Bennett. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. Wayne was a well known businessman in Calhoun as the owner and operator of Bennett's BP for a number of years but prior to his retirement Wayne was employed by the City of Calhoun. Wayne loved working with the Cherokee Capital Fair Association where he was a founding member and past president serving the association faithful . He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Bennett as well as ten brothers, Mell, J.M., Herman, Pat, Dale, Fred, Billy Jerry, Trammel, and Robert.
Survivors include one son, R.F. Bennett and his wife Linda of Calhoun. One daughter, Faye Cornelison Allen and her husband John of Calhoun. Two sisters, Jean McClure and Sue Amos and her husband Gary. Grandchildren, John Cornelison and his wife Angie, Tammy Bennett, Amy Morris and her husband Eric, Roger Bennett, Rebbeca Banks and her husband Brison. Step-grandchildren, Bruce Allen and his wife Laura, Melinda Erwin and her husband Tyler, and Scott and his wife Brandi Allen. Four great grandchildren, Emily Cornelison, Dodd Cornelison, Breanna Morris, and Fletcher Morris along with and number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday September 12th at 12 noon from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Dr. John Allen and Rev. Terrell Colston officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Rev. Dwaine Shadix in charge of graveside rites.
Family member will serve as pallbearers and the Cherokee Capital Fair Association will serve as honorary escorts.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 until 7pm.
