Monday, June 22, 2009 Mr. Waylon Hyles Miller, age 84 of the Plainville community died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his residence. Waylon was born in Plainville, December 31, 1924, son of the late Ben and Verda Miller. He was educated in the Plainville School System, graduating in the class of 1942. He continued his education at Bell Aircraft School, and later was assigned to the special project of building the B-29 bombers. He was a charter member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. After he marrying the former Elaine Knight of Plainville, they migrated to Alaska where they drove the famous, 6000 mile Alaska-Canadian highway four times. Later, Waylon and Elaine were employed at Lockheed Aircraft of Marietta and for four years worked on the B-47, the first jet bomber. Later Waylon was employed by Super Freight Lines and then General Electric of Rome for 19 years. Elaine preceded Waylon in death after 38 years of marriage. Waylon later married Dorothy S. Floyd. The enjoyed traveling during their 10 years of marriage visiting 38 states and 3 foreign countries: Canada, Mexico, and Freeport English Bahamas. Dorothy preceded Waylon in death but kept organized logs and pictures that so vividly express the adventurous and spirited man that Waylon was. He is survived by two sons, Tony Miller and his wife Laurie of Plainville, Ben Miller and his special friend Jessica Pratt; her children, Allison Dixon, Jordan Dixon and Marcus Pratt; and one grandchild, Savannah Miller all of Plainville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 23 at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Reverend W. A. Ivey officiating. Denise Miller will have charge of music and burial will be in Dodd Cemetery near Plainville. The body of Mr. Miller will lie in state from 10:00 until 11:00 PM Tuesday preceding the funeral. Pallbearers are the Deacons of Fellowship Baptist Church; they are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 AM, Tuesday. Honorary pallbearers are Hank Wyatt,Mike Floyd, Bo Nicholson, B.H. Floyd, Scott Wilson, and Charles Pratt; they are asked to meet at the church at 10:45 AM Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home Thomas Funeral Home has charge of arrangements for the services of Waylon H. Miller of Plainville.
