Walter Iven Ray, age 71 of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Pruitt Health Care of Fort Oglethorpe.
Walter was born on April 25, 1945 in Gordon County to the late James Allen Ray and Daisy Ellen Broome Ray. He was a member of Agape Baptist Church, the V.F.W. and American Legion. Walter was a veteran of the United States Navy, and a retired ordained minister.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ray of Calhoun; four sons, Bobby Ray and his wife Michelle of Dalton, Christopher Ray and his wife Hope of Calhoun, Sammy Smith of Rock Springs and Jeffery Smith and his wife Jessie of Trion; three daughters, Amy Greeson and her husband Shane of Calhoun, Donna Paulison and her husband Brian of Calhoun and Cathy Shields and her husband Rick of Madison; brother, Allen Ray and his wife Evelyn of Calhoun; three sisters, Jane Breeden and her husband James of Calhoun, Margaret Peace of Flowery Branch, and Shirley Johnson and her husband Mike of Fairmount; twenty one grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 17th at 2 PM at Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Vince Gulledge officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park with full military honors. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17th from 11 AM until the funeral hour at 2 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
