Victoria Evelyn Whitener, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Gordon Hospital.
Victoria was born on February 7, 1929 in Sugar Valley to the late Clarence and Nora Smith. She was a member of the Sugar Valley Baptist Church and lived all of her life in Gordon County with temporary residents in Cincinnati, OH and Bristol, TN. She loved her family very much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Nick Whitener; three brothers, Elroy, Troy and Jack Smith; two sisters, Elease and Jennelle; and one grandchild, Chris Asbrock.
She is survived by her husband, Muril Whitener of Calhoun; three sons, Scott Whitener and his wife Jackie of Calhoun, Tim Whitener of Cincinnati,Ohio and David Whitener and his wife Crickett of Armuchee; two daughters, Kennie West of Higdon, Alabama, and Jessica Loeb and her husband Jim of Phoenix, Arizona; a grandson she also raised, Brandon Whitener; two brothers, Ray Smith of Nashville, Tennessee, Lamar Smith of Pensacola, Florida; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday at 3pm from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Mitch Phillips and Rev. Howard Duvall officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Jason Whitener, Jeremy Whitener, Brandon Whitener, Joey West, Allan Black, and Culley Hawthorne.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 9pm.
