Vera Hammett Locklear, age 92 of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Gordon Hospital following a brief illness.
Vera was born on December 23, 1920 in Lawrence, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late W.W. Hammett and Mary Adelia Bray Hammett. Vera was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family, providing unconditional love and support. She was a gentle, nurturing individual whose legacy of love will live on. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Turner Locklear.
Survivors include: her daughters, Connie Layson and her husband Addison, Gwen Roye and her husband Larry, Judy Wilson and Debbie Owens and her husband Kenneth all of Calhoun; grandchildren, Don and Kim Owen, Autumn and Mark Waller, Amaris Roye, Joshua Roye, Brian and Marne Wilson, Melanie and Paul Seybt, Zach and Iris Owens, Chad Owens, and Kasey and Todd Davis; great-grandchildren, Garren and Laken Owen, Ashton and August Waller, Cole and Brooke Wilson, Tyler, Ryan and Anna Seybt, Hunter and Drako Owens, Bryson, Brylee, Laken and Mikenzie Davis, and Zarah Owens.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00am from the Calhoun First Baptist Church with the Dr. John Barber and Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Rebecca Owen and Donnie Nesbitt will have charge of music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24th from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Thomas Funeral Home.
