Velma Bernice (Fritz) Ladage, age 82, of Calhoun Ga, went to sleep in Jesus, on
Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Gordon Hospital surrounded by her family with last words
to her family being “I will meet you in the morning.”
Velma was born on July 26, 1934 to the late James Arthur Wilson and Beulah Dunham
Atwood in Petersburg, Illinois. She was a devoted member of the Calhoun Seventh Day
Adventist Church where she once served as the Sabbath School secretary, volunteered at
the Food Bank, Kitchen Coordinator and worked at the Church Kiosk. She was
previously the receptionist at Tallatoona and worked at Charles C. Thomas which is a
Frank Lloyd Wright House. Her most recent employment was with Gordon Hospital for
17 years as the ER Registration clerk. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death
by three daughters Vicky Lee Hinds, Viola B. Kennett, Debra K. Bagby and brothers Bill
Wilson, Perry Wilson, Leroy Wilson, and Lester (Jim) Wilson.
She is survived by three sons, Guy and wife Debbie Fritz of Oakford, Illinois, Lester Fritz
of Springfield, Illinois, John Ladage of Acworth, Ga, and Son In Law Arnie Hinds of
Keystone Heights Florida; daughter, Cathy Fritz of Calhoun; one brother, David
Atwood; two sisters, Kathleen Leisman and Grace Earlene Caygill; Grandchildren that
were close to her late in life were Abby Ladage, Ian Ladage, Brett Cohee, and great
granddaughter Jaydynn Cohee; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren
and three great-great grandchildren; great-godson Matty Thorsen, and his mother Bekah
Thorsen, her “partner in crime” Juanita Sexton, and special friends Charli Cargile,
Donna Hooper and Dorothy Sauder and many other church friends.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 16 at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 16 at the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Ken Mittleider officiating
