Mrs. Velma Ruth Hales, age 81, of Calhoun. Died Wednesday afternoon June 9th in Lafayette Health Care following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hales was born in Pickens County, February 3, 1929. Daughter of the late Edgar B. and Carrie Allen Silvers. She was homemaker and member of the Ball Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Garland Eugene Hales as well as a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughter; Jean Sutton and her husband Stan of Chatsworth. Three brothers; Floyd Silvers of Calhoun, Paul Silvers of Gunnersville, AL., and William (Bill) Silvers of Cartersville. Three sisters; Cleo Herrington of Acworth, Toy Nantz and Jerlene Goble both of Calhoun. Her two sister in laws, Margie Petty of the Red Bud Community and Odell Hales of Ft. Oglethrope. Two Grandchildren; Tracy Ann Stanley and Jamie Blackstock. Four Great grandchildren; Ashton Stanley, Saidi Stanley, Makayla and Austin Blackstock. Two step grandchildren; Vanessa Burrage and Scarlett Owens. Two step-great grandchildren; Blake and Noah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 12, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Johnson and Pastor Wendall Stover officiating. Internment will follow in the Crane Eater Cemetary.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 PM Friday June 11, 2010.
