Velda Doylene Hill Broughton

Velda Doylene Hill Broughton, age 93, passed away December 23, 2018 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living Center in Calhoun Georgia. Doylene was born December 5, 1925 in Pickens County, GA to the late Austin Hill and Lois Edwards Hill. In addition to her parents, Doylene is preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Blaine Hill, and a sister, Betty Jane Hill Neighbors. Doylene also was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Hilliard Broughton. Doylene and Hilliard were college sweethearts having met at Berry College. They were happily married for 49 years. Doylene was a graduate of Tate High School and Berry College. She was an educator for 30 years in the state of Georgia. She enjoyed sewing, cooking for others and working in her yard and flowers. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun. Doylene is survived by her daughters, Dianne King of Cartersville, and Martha Rucker and her husband Tom of Adairsville. She has 5 grandchildren, Emily Johnson and her husband Jeff of Cartersville; Brad Kessler and his wife Caroline of Chattanooga; Heath King and his wife Jill of Cartersville; Blake Kessler of Atlanta; and Meredith Kessler of Ringgold. Doylene has 3 great grandchildren, Emma Cate King, Broughton King, and Hill Kessler. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00, prior to the Funeral Service at 2:00 on Saturday, December 29th at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church of Calhoun with Dr. John Barber officiating. Interment will follow at Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton, GA where Doylene will rest next to her husband. Pallbearers serving are: Brad Kessler, Heath King, Blake Kessler and Jeff Johnson.
