Thomas Nonnie “Tom” Owens Jr., age 75 of the Farmville community, died Saturday February 14th at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
Tom was born in Gordon County March 25, 1939, son of the late Nonnie and Bonnie Erwin Owen. He was a cattle and chicken rancher before going to work with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department were he retired as a Lieutenant with the Drug Task after serving 20 years. Tom was a lifelong member of the Farmville Methodist Church.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maribeth Prather Owens; daughters, Debra Owens Farist and her husband Mark of Canton and Connie Owens Ross of Adairsville; his grandsons, Owen Farist, Ben Farist, and Thomas Ross; his granddaughters; Meredith Ross, and Anna Farist, and his dog Maddie.
Tom enjoyed helping others and always had a smile on his face. You could always count on Tom to have a story about one of his grandchildren. They were the pride of his life.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday February 16th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. James Shope officiating. Burial will follow in the Gaines Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Mike Jones, Jerry Quinn, David Gibson, Sid Roberts, Jack Brown and Jack Dyer.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 until 8pm.
