Thomas Louis McGowan, age 76, of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, January 26 at his residence.
Tom was born March 7, 1934 in Floyd County. Son of the late Thomas David McGowan and Luda Holtzclaw McGowan. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, he was a retired Systems Analysis. A deacon of Belmont Baptist Church and a active member of the Sportsman's Sunday School Class. Thomas was also preceded in death by two brothers; Rev. David McGowan and Horace McGowan; two sisters; Gladys McCullom and Mildred Frix.
Survivors include; his wife of 56 years, Joyce McGowan; two sons; Roger McGowan and his wife Debbie and Tim McGowan and his wife Tracy all of Calhoun; four sisters; Bobbie Smith of Lindale, Georgia, Nancy Farr of Jacksonville, Florida, Sarah Hammock of Carthage, Texas and Linda Dodd of Dallas, Georgia; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 29th at 11am at Belmont Baptist Church. With Dr. John Allen and Rev. Frank Sims officiating. The Men's Ensemble will have charge of the music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Hawkins in charge of graveside rites.
Pallbearers serving include; Seth McGowan, Rhett McGowan, Tony Erwin, Billy Neal, Donald Daniel, Grover Lunsford, Blake Putnam, and Buck McBee. Honorary escorts include the Sportsman's School Class, the Deacons of Belmont Baptist Church, and his special friend, Bobby Draper.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 until 8pm.
