Mrs. Sue Hayes, age 74, of Calhoun. Died Tuesday morning April 12th in Gordon Hospital, following several weeks of declining health. Sue was born March 22, 1937 in Mt. Aire, Georgia. Daughter of the late Ralph C. and Agnes Cone Scott. She was a teacher with the Trion City School System for 42 years retiring as the systems Curriculum Director. Her love of education led her to Shorter College and Georgia Northwestern where she was a instructor after her retirement. Sue was a member of the Calhoun Church of Christ, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and P.A.G.E. of Georgia. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; Carter and Hugh Scott. Two sisters; Ester Meadows and Theo Phillips. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Don Hayes. One daughter, Suzanne Smith and her husband Nathan all of Calhoun. One brother, John Scott and his wife Jo of Griffin. Two sisters; Olive Voltair and her husband George of Clearwater, Fl., and Ann Budd and her husband Dan of Rock Springs, Wo.. One granddaughter, Kate Hutchinson of Calhoun. Funeral services will be conducted Friday April 15th at 2pm from the Calhoun Church of Christ. With Pastor Barry Gilreath and Dr. Richard Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Nathan Smith and Maresha Bagwell. Pallbearer serving include her nephews; John Meadows, Mike Meadows, Scott Meadows, Jeff Bennett, Kevin Hayes, Steve Hayes, Chris Hayes, Robert Hayes, and Neil Hayes. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10am until 12:30 at which time Mrs. Hayes will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1pm until the funeral hour.
