Wednesday, February 17, 2010 Mrs. Sue Marie Franklin Lewis, age 79, of Calhoun. Died Tuesday evening February 16th at her residence. Sue Marie was born in Whitfield County December 24, 1930. Daughter of the late Bernard and Mignon Harlan Franklin.She was the wife of the Late John A. Lewis Jr. and was a 1946 graduate of Calhoun High School and graduated from the Brenau Women’s College in 1951 with her A.B. degree with French major and English minor. Sue Marie was a very active member of her community and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Gordon County Historical Society and was proud to be a fifth generation Gordon Countain. She is survived by her son; John Franklin Lewis and his wife Joyce of Smyrna and her daughter Claire Lewis of Calhoun. One sister, Mignon Franklin Ballard and her husband Gene of Ft. Hill, S.C., one brother in law; Edward Lewis and his wife Jean of Calhoun, Sister-in laws; Sue West of Moultrie and Jo Ann Lewis of Calhoun. Nephews James Edward Lewis and his wife Christine of Peachtree City; John E. Lewis of Grove City, OH, Gregory West of Dalton, Lyle N. West and his wife Gina of Moultrie, and Shawn West and his wife Danielle of Crozer, VA. Fourteen Great nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday February 20th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Father Louis Tonsmeier officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers include; Lyle N. West, John Finck, Mark H. Smith, Stephen Caldwell, James Edward Lewis,Jr., Dr. Shawn West, John E. Lewis, and James A. Franklin. Honorary Pallbearers include, Col. James A. Franklin, Alex W. Franklin, Bill D. Mathews, James W. Lay, Wesley Robbins, Mike Jenkins, Bill Lewis, Tom H. Bond, Robert L. Collins, Bill Lovvorn, Bert Lance, Merrell Dobbs, L.P. Owens, and Ted Collins. Honorary Escorts will include members of her bridge group and they are; Marjorie Dobbs Lovvorn, Louise Fite Bond, Glo Gay Hobgood, Shirley Hall Moore, Barbara Parsons Dobbs, Pat Kirk Lewis, Martha Claire Adams, and Betty Nichols Scoggins. The family requests that in addition to flowers donations may be made to the Gordon County Historical Society, the Good Mews of Marietta or and other animal rescue group, or St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 4 until 7pm.
