Stephen Lamar Sanders, age 53 of Cullman, AL and formerly of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday October 19th at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
Stephen was born on May 30, 1963 in Floyd County to Mildred Delay Sanders and the late Walter Don Sanders, Sr. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Lee Sanders.
Stephen loved life. He was a life time University of Kentucky fan. He bled blue. He loved sports, classic rock, trout fishing, sitting by a fire talking to family and friends. Stephen has taught high school boys Sunday school. He has been a registered Boy Scout Leader for 16 years, where he has been a Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and an Advisor for the Venture Crew for Pack Troop and Crew 39. Stephen worked at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Cullman, Alabama as a driver. He loved his job and told everyone he talked to.
Stephen never forgot anything, so if you had a conversation with him or interacted with him you were a part of his memory.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Sanders of Cullman, AL; son, Elliott Sanders; daughter, Heather Hubbard and her husband Ronnie; mother, Mildred Sanders of Calhoun; and two brothers, Don Sanders, Jr. and his wife Bridgett, and Phillip Sanders and his wife Sherry. One grandson; Bentley Hubbard, two aunts; Betty Hegwood and Carolyn Sanders, as well as two cousins; Barry Hegwood and Alan Sanders also survives.
Services to celebrate Stephens’s life will be conducted on Saturday October 29th at 1pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends on Friday October 28th from 5 until 7pm at the funeral home.
