Shirley Temples Wehunt, age 73, of Fairmount, passed away Friday afternoon November 27th at Gordon Hospital.
Shirley was born August 13, 1942 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Albert Andrew Temples and Lillian Wehunt Temples. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Ruby Dorsey. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairmount. She was co-owner of Salacoa Valley Fabrics and Crafts for 10 years and retired after 19 years of service as department manager with Wal-Mart. Shirley was a 1960 graduate of Fairmount High School, a member of “The Garden Buddies” and “The Old Dawgs”. During this time she remained a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles G. Wehunt III of Fairmount, son Kevin Wehunt and his wife Connie of Fairmount and their daughters, Leah, Bailey and Hannah; daughter, Cynthia Wehunt-Helms of Calhoun and her son, Jeremy Helms and his wife Ashley and daughter, Annsley Greeson; daughter, Jennifer Wehunt Devaney and her husband Ryan of Massachusetts, and their sons, Graham, Callan and one son on the way; two great grandchildren, Hayden and Jaycie Helms. Three sisters, Frances Young, Barbara (Barbie) Temples both of Calhoun and Charlene Collins and her husband Alvin of Adairsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 1st at 2pm from the First Baptist Church of Fairmount with Dr. Marcus Dorsey, Kazira Temples and Bobby Mullinax officiating. Burial will follow in the Salacoa Baptist Church Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Freddy Wehunt.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 8pm at the funeral home.
