Shirley Harris King, age 77 of Oostanaula, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Mt. Berry Hospice in Rome following an extended illness.
Shirley was born on February 13, 1940, in Ringgold, Georgia, to the late Scott Harris and Ella Mae Allen Harris. She was a 1958 graduate of Ringgold High School and attended Reinhardt College. She was employed as an insurance agent and office manager for King Insurance Agency for 40 years. Most importantly, she was an avid and active member of West Union Baptist Church where she volunteered as the pianist for 56 years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Harris and his wife Jean Harris.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert King; son, Scott King and his wife Rhonda; daughter, Candace King Steele and her husband Richard D. Steele II of New Smyrna Beach, FL; brother; Lamar Harris and his wife Sandra of Ft. Oglethorpe; five grandchildren, Bryn King Ramos and her husband Joe of Calhoun, Madyson King of Calhoun, Richard “Tripp” D. Steele III, R. King Steele and Sailor G. Steele all of New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM from West Union Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Brooks officiating. The body of Mrs. King will lie-in-state from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the West Union Baptist Church cemetery. Cecil Terry, Hank Toole, Jeff Harris, Jason Harris, Frank Hutchinson, Mark Outlaw, Scott King and Mike Benfield will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 31, 2017, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
