Mrs. Shannon Jarrett Couch, 64, of Calhoun passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Rabun County on December 20, 1943, daughter of the late DJ and Flora Smith. She was a member of West Union Baptist Church. She was a happy, courageous, and devoted mother, wife, sister, Oma, and Christian servant. She was involved in numerous church activities throughout the years including serving as Sunday School Director and Youth Director of Sonoraville Baptist Church. Shannon organized and was involved in numerous women’s, youth, and children’s activities at Sonoraville Baptist Church and most recently as Sunday School Director at West Union Baptist Church. During her ministries she was involved with Bruce Allen in the planning of Super Wow on Jekyll Island and also participated in a mission trip to Panama. She was involved with the Gordon Memorial Association and served as Sunday School Director on its executive board. She also served on the board of Good Samaritan Ministries and was a Blewer Food Bank volunteer. Shannon graduated from Shorter College with a degree in Ministerial Studies in 2005. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Jarrett in 2001. Survivors include her husband, Douglas Couch, three sons and daughter-in-laws, Dale and Kathy Jarrett of Calhoun, Todd and Jane Jarrett of Canton, and Kirk and Jennifer Jarrett of Calhoun; a son, Matt Couch of Mableton; brothers and sister-in-laws, Jack and Lillian Smith of Lakemont; Bobby and Sarah Couch of Cumming; one sister, Alliene Jones of Lakemont; one sister-in-law, Nancy Couch of Dallas; special nieces and nephews; Gail and Rodney Hopper of Lakemont, and Cami and Richard Hopper of Clayton; a special niece, Tina Johnson of Fayetteville; special family friends; Chan, Connie, Meredith and Thomas Ross of Calhoun; grandchildren, Kayla and Jared Gray of Calhoun, Kelsey Jarrett of Calhoun, Kate Jarrett of Calhoun, Luke, Maddie, and DJ Jarrett of Canton; a great granddaughter, Lexi Gray of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate the life of Shannon will be Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Sonoraville Baptist Church with Dr. John Allen and Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating. Internment will follow in the Sonoraville Baptist Church cemetery. The Sonoraville Baptist Church Choir under direction of Ronnie Hammontree will perform special music for the service. Pallbearers include: Rick Brown of Calhoun, Richard Hopper of Clayton, Zack Hopper of Carrollton, Adam Hopper of Clayton, Rodney Hopper of Lakemont, Tommy Jarrett of Atlanta, Pete Stewart of Calhoun, and Robert Wages of Calhoun. Honorary Pallbearers include: Robert Jarrett of Vermont, Alan Herring of Arizona, and Jimmy Fox of Calhoun.
