Thursday, July 30, 2009 Sammy Joe Barnette, age 63, of Gordon County. Died Monday July 27th at Saint Luke Hospital in Kansas City, MO. following a sudden attack. Sammy Joe was born in Gordon County April 11, 1946. Son of the late William Clifford and Ruby Jo Rickett Barnette. He was employed at the time of his death by Textile Rubber and Chemical Company as a truck driver for the past 42 years. Sammy Joe was a graduate of Calhoun High School Class of “64”, he was a veteran of the United States Army and formerly attended Oostanaula Baptist Church. Besides his parents his brother Ricky Barnette and Ricky wife Pat preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Rinda Mae Barnette. Son; Anthony Barnette and his companion Sharon Silvers. Two daughters; Michelle Gilmore and her husband David and Robin Hall and her husband David all of Calhoun. Two brothers; Larry Barnette and his wife Brenda of Calhoun and Jerry Barnette and his wife Jennie of Dalton. One sister; Linda Chastain and her husband Walter of Calhoun. One granddaughter; Constance Owens, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Monday August 3rd at 3pm at the Plainville Church of God of Prophecy. With Rev. Jerry Gaddis and Rev. Troy Creech officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Brother Gregory Barnette in charge of graveside rites. Roy Stephens, The Langleys and Travel by Faith will have charge of the music. Pallbearers include; Freddie Pullen, Shane Barnette, Levi Barnette, Brian Mulkey, David Hall, and Bobby Cook. Honorary escorts will include; Eddie Fox, Alfred Hall, Danny Matthews, and Jeffery Mulkey. These men are ask to meet at the church at 2:30pm Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5pm Friday. Sammy Joe will be taken to the church Saturday morning at 10am where the family will receive friends until the funeral hour.
