Sam D. Poarch

Sunday, November 29, 2009 Mr. Sam D. Poarch age 83 of Calhoun formally of Dalton passed away Friday evening at his home. Sam was born in Whitfield County on September 19, 1926 son of the late William Zachariah Porch and Myrtle Mae Nesbitt Porch. He was a WWII Veteran having served in the Navy and was a member of the Belmont Baptist Church. In addition to his parents his first wife Doris Suggs Poarch and his second wife Retha Pritchard Poarch along with his brothers and sisters James, J.T., Joseph, and Julia preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons Bill Poarch of Ringgold, Ga. David Poarch of Phoenix, AZ. and stepson Scott Pritchard of Marietta, Ga. One Daughter Sandra Arp of Rocky Face, Ga. and stepdaughter Sharon Powell of Calhoun. Nine Grandchildren and Eleven Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Monday November 30th from the Belmont Baptist Church with the Dr. John Allen and Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Rev. Daniel Addis conducting graveside services. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers with the “Scrap Iron Sunday School Class” serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
