Ruth Kemp Mauldin Holcomb, age 105 of Calhoun, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Gordon Health Care.
She was born October 15, 1911 in the Chief Vann House in Spring Place, GA which was owned by her parents, Daniel D and Sara Leonard Kemp. Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by brothers, Ted and Leonard Kemp; sisters, Agnes Kemp, Lucy Walker and Mary Ellis; her first husband, Henry A. Mauldin died in 1978 and her second husband, Homer Holcomb died in 2003. Two great-grandchildren, Sara Ashley Mauldin and George Kenneth Mauldin also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, H. Kemp and Peggy Mauldin, Lucia and Gary Eastham and Laurence Mauldin; grandchildren and their spouses Daniel and Sara Mauldin, Mary Mauldin and Dan Rinenbach, Laurence “Hank” Mauldin and Janna, Robin and Justin Montgomery and Rodney and Kim Holcomb; and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Ruth had a long healthy life. After graduating Lucy Hill High School in Spring Place, she attended Piedmont and LaGrange Colleges. She taught school early in life in Several Gordon County Schools after she married Henry, including Pine Chapel, Resaca and Sugar Valley in the late 1940’s and 50’s. She later joined her husband Henry in his business, Mauldin Feed and Seed, which founded in 1949 and also operated the Greyhound Bus station until she retired.
Ruth was always active in civic organizations and loved playing in several Bridge Clubs, playing until she was 100 years old and she always enjoyed visits from the family pets while at Gordon Health Care.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 3 PM until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.
