Ruby Swinford

Mrs. Ruby Bowman Swinford, age 89, died July 28, 2015. Mrs. Swinford was born in Calhoun, Georgia on February 15, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph Henry Bowman and Lillie Holden Bowman. She was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Plainville, Georgia and was the last surviving charter member. Mrs. Swinford graduated from Plainville High School and Carroll Lynn Business School. She worked a number of years at Plainville Elementary School. At the time of her retirement, she was Secretary at the W.L. Swain Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton William Swinford to whom she was married for 58 years and by her daughter, Michael (Mickey) Darlene Swinford, a sister, Clara Mae Scott, and brothers, Clyde Bowman, and Willie V. Bowman. She is survived by a son, Wayne Swinford and his wife, Joyce Swinford of Cartersville and a daughter, Sandra Swinford of Rome and a grandson, Ron Swinford of Rome, a granddaughter, Jennifer Vann (Jeffrey Vann), and great grandchildren, Reese Kelly, Gracie, Gavin, and Hudson Vann. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Wilburn Scott and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on July 31, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home in Calhoun, GA. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Bowman and Reverend Cary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery. Fonda Brown is in charge of the music. Pallbearers serving include, Larry Brown, Walter Brown, Joey Brown, Kerry Autry, Donald Worley, and John Worley. The family wants to thank the staff at Winthrop Court Senior Living for their loving care in the last two years of her life.
