Ronald Merrill Dobbs

Ronald Merrill Dobbs passed away on February 7, 2017 in his home in Calhoun, Georgia. He was born in Gordon County on April 29, 1929, the son of the late Etta Moss Dobbs and Frank Johnston Dobbs. Merrill was married to Barbara Parsons Dobbs for 64 years until her passing in 2014. Merrill is survived by his sister, Marjorie Dobbs Lovvorn, and preceded in death by his brother, Frank J. Dobbs, Jr. Merrill has four children: his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Amie Dobbs of Calhoun; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Gary Wolfe of Colorado Springs, CO; his daughter, Drena Dobbs of Ames, IA; and his daughter and son-in-law, Teena and Ed Moody of Hermosa Beach, CA. Mr. Dobbs has eight grandchildren: Sarah Dobbs Ostuw and her husband Will, Christina Dobbs Bayram, and her husband Volkan, Amy Wolfe, David Wolfe, Brittney Henderson, Katrina Henderson, Jonathan Moody, Michele Moody, and four great-grandchildren: Merrill Ostuw, Edward Ostuw, Braxton Henderson, and Chance McGee. He is also survived by his nieces, Candi Chitwood and Robin Lovvorn Willis, and nephew, Hank Chitwood. Merrill happily lived all of his life in Calhoun. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1946 and married Barbara in 1949. After serving 4 years in the United States Air Force, he returned to Calhoun to set up his own CPA firm (R.M. Dobbs & Company, CPAs). He was a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church and the Calhoun Rotary Club, and he was a passionate golfer. The Dobbs family would like to express gratitude to the many people who have cared for Merrill, with a special thanks to Dr. Joe Bishop and Kathy Greeson, and to all his friends and neighbors for the loving concern and assistance they have shown him throughout the years. We are grateful to Heyman Hospice Care at Floyd, who helped to make his last days comfortable, especially Jerrie McDougle, and may God bless his loving caregivers, especially Mary Goswick, Angie and Richard Pack, and Brenda Jones. The Dobbs family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, February 11, from 2 to 4 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm in the sanctuary of the church, with Rev. Eddie Herring of Calhoun First United Methodist Church, Rev. Frank Mills of Cross Point Church of Christ, Florence AL, and Dr. Steven Pearson of Meadowdale Baptist Church, Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow at Fain Cemetery.
