Mr. Robert James Stanfield of 188 Honeysuckle Drive S.W., Calhoun, died Thursday April 8, 2010 at his residence following a sudden illness.
James was born in Murphy N. C. on April 23, 1932 son of the late Paul Stanfield and Martha Bailey Stanfield. He was a member of the Plainville Independent Methodist Church and was a retired contractor. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sgt. during the Korean war and was awarded two purple hearts. He was a member of the Shanklin Attaway Post 5 American Legion in Rome. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Ruth Gallman Stanfield in 2008, and two daughters; Cynthia Ruth Stanfield and Gail Stanfield Nasworthy.
Survivors include one son James Stanfield of Adairsville, four daughters; Judy Clark and her husband David of Coosa, Ga., Toni Fuller and her husband Tim of Plainville, Kathy Gullahorn and her husband Tonny of Cuba, Alabama, and Connie Pettit of Atlanta, three brothers; RT. Stanfield of Rome, Gary Stanfield of Goose Creek, S.C., and Terry Stanfield of Gadsden , Alabama, sisters; Alma Smith of Griffin, Sue Smith of Plainville, Carolyn Sprayberry of Rome, along with 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and caregiver Melissa Jacks.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Interment will be in the Scott Cemetery with Shanklin Attaway Post 5 American Legion conduct graveside rites.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the services.
