Mr. Robert A. Smith of Gordon County, died Sunday February 10th. in the Gordon Hospital following several weeks of declining health.
Robert was born in Gordon County on July 30, 1929 son of the late Horace Ernest Smith and Evelyn Buren Smith who survives him. He was retired from the commercial construction industry and was a Veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy. He also was a member of the V.F.W and the Americn Legion and in addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother Frank Smith.
Survivors include his wife Madlen K.. Smith of Gordon County, his mother: Evelyn Buren Smith of Rome, sons; Ernie Smith and his wife Darlene of Calhoun and Michael Smith of LaFayette, one daughter and son –in-law; Lynn and Mack Conley of Ringgold, a sister and brother-in-law; Polly and J.W. Jackson of Cartersville, a sister–in-law; Wanda Smith of Calhoun and grandchildren; Dalton and Ryder Smith, Destiny and Gage Smith, Madison and Matthew Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday February 12th. from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Scott Ptak and Rev. Eddie Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include C.W. Barrett, Russell Mobbs, Dan Bramlett, Ricky Smith, Lamar Turner, and Scott Whittle and these gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 P.M . Tuesday.
The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday evening.
