Robert Lee Herndon passed away on April 1, 2025.
He was born on August 6, 1932 in Pickens County to Milton Clarence Herndon and Amanda Naoma (Moss) Herndon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Mims (Clark) Herndon; his son, Jeffery Bruce Herndon; son-in-law, Burness W. (B.W.) Dalton; brothers, Hoyle Herndon and Donnie Herndon; and sisters, Edna Satterfield and Bernice Payne.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Dalton; brothers, Edward Herndon and Danny Herndon; and sisters, Shirley Kirby, Bennie Bell, Linda Mabry and her husband, Lonnie.
When he was a teen, his family moved to Ellijay. After working jobs in the orchards and lumber yard, he pursued a job at the Chrysler/Dodge Corporation in Detroit where he served as a foreman from 1951 – 1953. He was then drafted and served as a Corporal in the United Staes Army, stationed in Germany, from April 1953 to August 1961 during the Korean Conflict.
Following his service, he returned to Calhoun where he began his lifelong occupation of electric motor repair at Calhoun Electric and then, at Lacey Electric Motor Company prior to owning and solely operating his business, Robert’s Electric, for 42 years.
He loved and enjoyed being with family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening, Georgia Football, the Atlanta Braves, golf, and Westerns.
He was of Baptist faith. He was also a Master Mason member of the Masonic Lodge for almost 64 years and had received his 60 year pin in May 2021.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 2 PM until 3 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 3 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers serving include: Mike Satterfield, Jerome Crump, Johnny Ferguson, Dewayne Grizzle, James Bell, Steve Dyer, and Tony Gentry.
