Robert Weldon Craig, 69, died at his home surrounded by family May 11, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert was born in Gordon County August 11, 1945, son of the late Eunice Fite and Frank Pitts Craig. He was preceded in death by a sister Jackie Prather, father in law, Lamar Stephens and brother in law, Wayne Branton. He was a life time farmer and retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation in 2014. Robert was a graduate of Calhoun High School Class of 1963 and had served in the Georgia National Guard. He was an active member of the Eastgate Baptist Church where he severed as Church Treasure and Sunday School Director. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Patsy Craig; a son, David Robert Craig and his wife Judy; a daughter, Carla Craig Blackstock and her husband Bryan; five grandchildren, Callie, Cole and Curt Craig and Emma and Sarah Blackstock. Survivors also include sisters Mildred Branton and Ann Walraven; mother-in-law, Evelyn Stephens; sister and brother-in-laws, Joan and Bobby Dodd, Jean and Billy Johnson, Ann and Gerald Mashburn and Vivian and Randy Reddick along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday May 14th at 2:00 PM at the Eastgate Baptist Church with Reverend Clinton Green and Reverend Kenny Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Champ Kelly, Kurt Kelly, Nevin Pulliam, Jack Dyer, James Hulsey, Joey Little, and Greg Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Gee, Gary Bowman, Eddie Fite, Paul Clark, Cary Fite, Larry Welchel, Ted Smith, Mark Thornbrough, Gary Pass, Jerry Chadwick, Mays Hogan, and other friends from Lockheed, and the Eastgate Baptist Church Men’s Bible Class. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thomas Funeral Home. Along with flowers and condolences contributions may be made to Gideons International in Robert’s memory.
