Richard Lowery, Sr., age 90, of Calhoun, passed away Thursday April 3rd.
Richard was born May 10, 1928 in Delano, Tennessee, son of the late Harley Romeo Lowery and Esta Belle Groves Lowery. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech where he was a member of the tennis team. Richard was also a amateur middle weight boxer. After graduating he served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force and prior to his retirement was employed as a textile engineer with Rhon Polanc. He was member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the church choir. He was well known for his love of music and his solos. He loved cats and all kinds of animals.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Manning Lowery, two brothers, Lebron and Oneal Lowery and a sister, Sarah Jo Hobbs.
Survivors include, one son, Richard Lowery Jr., and his wife Gail of Atlanta, two daughters, Julia Anne Anthony of Gainesville and Cynthia Vynette Lowery of St. Augustine, Florida, one sister, Jeanette Parish and his aunt, Betty Groves of Chickamauga; three grandchildren, Hannah Lowery, Madelaine Lowery Pesce and Laura June Rice; four great-grandchildren, Ayden Bell, Landon Bell, Seth Rice and Scarlett Jeanna Rice also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday April 6th at 2pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Rev. Michael Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8pm at the funeral home.
