Mr. Richard David Jordon, age 73 of 115 Vinings Way, Calhoun, died Monday October 6th following a brief illness.
Richard was born in the Red Bud Community March 13, 1935. Son of the late Julia Whittemore Nelson and J.D. Jordon. Mr. Jordon was the team Co-Captain of the Calhoun High School Yellow Jacket Football team who won the State Championship in 1952. Richard was a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church and was retired conductor from the Norfolk-Southern Railway. He was a member of the Oothcaloga Masonic Lodge #154 F&AM, the York Rite Bodies, and the Yaarab Shrine Temple as well as the Echota – Vann Shrine Club. As a member of the Georgia National Guard he served with the 1st Battalion, 108th Armor Division. Richard was a avid trout fisherman who loved the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nancy Hicks Jordon. Five children and their spouses, Leisa and Brownie McEntyre, Julie and Kim Brummitt, Joey and Dondra Jordon, David and Amy Jordon, Eric and Rhonda Jordon. One brother and his wife, Stephen and Diane Nelson all of Calhoun. Eight grandchildren, Will McEntyre, Jennifer Brummitt, Jackson Jordon, Annsley, Ben, and Caleb Jordon, Davis and Griffin Jordon. Two great-grandchildren, Drew and Greyson McEntyre. Several cousins and a niece also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday October 8th at 4pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include, Will McEntyre, Jackson Jordon, Ben Jordon, Caleb Jordon, Jerry Smith, Gary Causby, Bob Agee. Honorary Pallbearers will include members of the 1952 Calhoun High School Football Team. All pallbearers should meet at the funeral home by 3:30pm Wednesday.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Tuesday evening.
