Richard R. Jones

Mr. Richard R. Jones, 77, of Calhoun, passed away Friday, January 23rd, after a brief illness. He was born in Gordon County on July 8, 1937, son of the late Reuben and Eunice Oaks Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Gordon County and was a founding and active member of Meadowdale Baptist Church in which he served in many roles; Treasurer for 30 years, Deacon, Sunday School Director, RA Leader and a member of the Choir. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Richard owned and operated Calhoun Auto Parts for 36 years. He was a graduate of Calhoun High School Class of 1957, served in the Georgia National Guard, owner in the WJTH Radio and a member of The Cherokee Mustang Club. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Annette Rickett Jones. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Childers Jones, daughters and son in laws; Julie and Grant Walraven, Jennifer and Rodney Babb and Emily and Chris Tarpley. Seven Grandchildren, Macy Walraven, Lex Walraven, Chloe Babb, Caleb Babb, Blake Garland, Brett Garland and Caroline Tarpley all of Calhoun. Additionally he is survived by Deandra and Jason Rademacher, Joshua and Jacob Rademacher of Sevierville, TN, Ginger and Rodney Bateman and Brooklyn Bateman of Gadsden, AL; Sisters, Mary Abel and her husband Bobby, Sisters, Mittie Broyles and Carmen Bridges all of Calhoun and also Selma Moskowitz of Maine. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 25th at 2pm from the Meadowdale Baptist Church with Dr. Steven Pearson officiating. Travis Stephens will be in charge of the music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Jack Bibb, Edward Boswell, Charlie Dempsey, Troy Dutton, Jerry Hufstetler and Ronald Pearson serving as pallbearers. The Deacons of Meadowdale Baptist Church as well as Shane McDougle and Ron Crawley will serve as honorary escorts. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 24th from 5 until 8pm at Meadowdale Baptist Church. In addition to flowers, contributions may be made to the Meadowdale Baptist Church Mission Fund or the Building Fund at 1811 Rome Road SW, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701.
