Richard O. “Dick” Gilbert, Jr., age 74 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his residence.
Dick was born on July 20, 1946 in Gordon County, son of the late Richard O. Gilbert, Sr. and Lorraine Haley Gilbert. Dick was a graduate of Valley Point High School Class of 1964. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Vietnam and Thailand. Dick retired from AT&T. He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church and taught the Sycamore Sunday School Class, and previously had taught Sunday school at Sonoraville Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed golf and was proud to have served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam. Nothing brought Dick more joy than being a granddaddy.
In addition to his parents, Richard was also preceded in death by: his wife, Dianne Butler Gilbert.
Dick is survived by: three daughters, Christi Bennett and her husband Shannon, Becky Johns and her husband Ian, and Hayley Arnold all of Calhoun, GA; brother, Bill Gilbert and his wife Yvonne of Sugar Valley, GA; sister, Pat Ford and her husband Tommy of Dalton, GA; sister-in-law, Charme Harmon and her husband Larry of Jasper, GA; four grandchildren, Ella Bennett, Lilli Bennett, Anna George, and Blair Johns; three step-grandchildren, Jana Johns, Jaide Johns, and Jace Johns. Special nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 25th at 2 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Barber and Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery with Rev. Jether Cochran in charge of graveside rites.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 PM until the funeral hour at 2 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
