Rex Hall Prater, age 76, of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday February 25th at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Rex was born September 19, 1937 in Gordon County, son of the late Hugh Hall Prater and Ruby Bennett Prater; he was well known farmer and member of the Gordon County Farm Bureau , as an active member of the business community Rex was also the owner and operator of Prater Carpet and Rug. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun where he served on the Usher Committee.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Annette Hayes and a infant brother, Billy Prater.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Thomason Prater of Calhoun, one son, David Prater of Calhoun, his daughter, Charme Prater Knight of Knoxville, two grandchildren, Prater Thomason Knight and Ransom Schaub Knight both of Knoxville, three sister in laws, Martha Miller and her husband Mike, Margaret Thomason and Judy Thomason all of Calhoun. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday February 28th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Dr. John Barber officiating, Gina Daniel will have charge of the music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Jim Prater, Charles Prater, Eric Prater, Mike Miller, Steve Thomason, and Doug Thomason serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include, Larry Cochran, Jimmy Silvers, Jerry Brumbelow, Larry House, Jimmy Prater, Freddy Prater, Billy Padgett, Ted Collins, Perry Moore, and Billy Baxter.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 7pm at the funeral home.
