Renia Erwin Williams, age 62 of Calhoun passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. Renia was born on November 27, 1949 in Calhoun. Son of Erwin Williams and Mamie Jo Rickett Williams. He had been employed by ABF Freight for many years and had recently received a Thirty-two year Safe Driver Award. He was a member of the Teamster’s Local # 515, Sonora Lodge #221 F. & A.M. and the New Town Baptist Church. He was also an active member of the Calhoun Elk’s Lodge, American Legion, V.F.W. and the Empty Pocket Car Club. Renia was instrumental in the formation and success of the annual Shirley Logan Memorial Golf Tournament at the Calhoun Elks Lodge. Recently he was honored with the addition of his name to the tournament. It will be known in the future as the Shirley Logan and Renia Williams Memorial Golf Tournament. Renia is survived by his wife of 43 years of marriage, Vickie Bagwell Williams; two daughters, Tracy Bennett and her husband Monty, Lorie Vest and her husband Barry; parents, Erwin and Mamie Jo Williams; one brother, Joel Williams; one sister, Rhonda Hicks and her husband, Lamar; four grandchildren, Chandler Vest, Mason Bennett, Landon Vest, and Myles Bennett; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm, Thursday, June 7th at New Town Baptist Church with the Reverend Walter Hare officiating. Ryan Coker will have charge of music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. The body of Mr. Williams will lie in state from 1:00 until 2:00pm prior to the funeral. Pallbearers are Tresley Garren, Bobby Logan, Wade Russell, Caris Roland, Ricky Marshall, Terry Brown, Randall Patterson, and Randy Tate. They are asked to meet at the church at 12:45 PM Thursday. Honorary pallbearers will be the ELKS and ELKETTES. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8pm on Wednesday, June 6th at the funeral home.
