Rebecca "Becky" Ann Herndon Mumpower

Beloved wife, sister, mother and friend, Rebecca Ann Herndon Mumpower passed away peacefully in Calhoun, Georgia on Sunday evening, January 5, 2014 at the age of 83. Becky, the daughter of Leonard and Lucy Herndon, originally of the Swansonville Community in Pittsylvania County, was predeceased by her daughter Janice Barbour. She is survived by William A. Mumpower, her dedicated, loving husband, partner and friend of 44 years. Becky is lovingly remembered by her brother Malcolm W. Herndon of Franklin Springs Georgia; her son-in-law, Lynwood Barbour of Danville, Virginia; grandsons Brian and John Barbour of Danville, Virginia and Lexington, Kentucky; great grandaughter Nico Rhianon of Danville, Virginia; sister in law, Linda Roe of metro Atlanta, and brother in law Daniel Mumpower of Augusta, Georgia. Becky was one of eleven children who started her early life working on her family’s dairy farm, and retired from a career with Horizon Industries. She and her husband owned a successful retail business, BMJ Collectibles, which served the Calhoun community for many years. Becky was a member of Calhoun Community Church who enjoyed traveling, baking, gardening and giving to friends and family. The family will host a visitation on Tuesday, January 7th from 11am to noon with a celebration of life following from noon to 1pm at Thomas Funeral Home at 535 Red Bud Rd., NE in Calhoun, GA. Pastor Jerry Rice and Rebecca’s brother, Rev. Malcolm Herndon will preside and Kenny Herron, Ben Riley, Rev. Jerry Rice, Ed Blackmon and Sue Cuzzort will provide the music for the service. The service of remembrance will be held at Swicegood Funeral Home at 564 West Main Street in Danville, Virginia on Wednesday, January 8 from 6-8pm with a graveside service following on Thursday morning, January 9, beginning at 11am at Mountain View Cemetery, 400 Robertson Ave., Danville. Pall Bearers include Melvin Holley, Norman Wright, Dwight Herndon, James Reynolds, Gabriel Reynolds, Wayne Herndon, Phil Herndon, Buddy Herndon and Barry Herndon The Family of Rebecca Ann Herndon Mumpower would like to say a special thank you to Anbreia Wright, Certified Nurse Assistant and Tammy Wilson for the love and care they showed to Rebecca during her strong and courageous battle in the final years of her graceful life.
