Mr. Rawlan M. Whittemore, age 80 of Calhoun died at 2:09 AM, Sunday, January 11 at his residence.
Rawlan was born in Whitfield County, February 6, 1928, son of the late Lawrence Whittemore and Ollie Tatum Whittemore. He had lived most of his life in Gordon County and had served over 35 years in the U.S. Army-Georgia National Guard, First Battalion, 108th Armor of Calhoun. He was an Alumnus of Reinhardt College; a member of the Resaca Daylight Lodge # 724, F. & A.M. with over 50 years service and a member of the Sequoyah Chapter # 286, Order of the Eastern Star. He was an old car enthusiast and was a member of the Chickamauga Region, Antique Automobile Club of America and the Early Ford V-8 Club of America. He and his wife “Sis” attended the Damascus Baptist Church.
Rawlan is survived by his wife, “Sis” Whittemore of Calhoun; one son, Mike Whittemore and his wife Tamara of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Abby and Ryan Whittemore of Calhoun; one brother, Lawrence Whittemore of Adairsville; three sisters, Frances Whittemore of Calhoun, Jeanette Ruddell and her husband Phil of Calhoun, Sadie Price and her husband Kenneth of Victoria, Texas, and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 13 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Winfred Casey officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers; Pat Martin will have charge of music; and burial will be in Fain Cemetery. The Gordon County Masonic Memorial Association will have charge of Masonic Services.
The Whittemore family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home
