Dr. Ralph W. Snyder, 86, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away December 25 at A.G. Rhodes Rehabilitation facility in Atlanta following a brief illness.
Dr. Snyder, brother of former Calhoun resident Edna Snyder Langford, was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 11, 1924. He spent most of his early years in Ponca City, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school in 1942. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Langford, and his parents, Dorotha Wood Snyder and George Ralph Snyder.
After four years of military service in the U.S. Army stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Snyder earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He graduated first in his medical school class, and he participated in post-graduate studies in London, Amsterdam and Boston.
In the 1950’s and 60’s, Dr. Snyder taught medicine at Harvard, Tufts, Columbia and Boston Universities. He served as Chief of Pathology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City from the mid-1960’s until his retirement in 1986.
Dr. Snyder is survived by a sister, Carol Snyder Boulukos of Cambridge, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews including George Boulukos, Manolis Boulukos, Maria Boulukos, Judy Langford, Jim Langford, and Lucie Canfield, as well as 14 great-nieces and nephews and three great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Dr. Snyder will be conducted at Thomas Funeral Home on Thursday, December 30 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Robert Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Fain Cemetery in Calhoun following the funeral service.
