Philip Barnette

Philip Barnette, age 66, of the Rock Creek Community. Died accidently from injuries received near his home Wednesday June 8th. Philip was born September 10, 1944 in Gordon County. Son of Audrey Burns Barnette and the late Rev. Fite Barnette. He was a graduate of West Georgia College and had been employed by Northfolk Southern Railway. Philip was happiest when outside with nature, and was a friend to all who knew him. Besides his father he was preceded in death by his infant brother, James Norris Barnette. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Falls Barnette. One son, Harley Falls Barnette. His mother, Audrey Burns Barnette all of the Rock Creek Community. Three sisters, Carol Jenkins of Douglasville, Linda Blankenship and her husband Dennis of Cedartown ,and Brenda Goering and her husband J.B. of Pendleton, SC. Philip is also survived by a number of beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family, neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday June 11th at 2pm from the Belmont Baptist Church. With Dr. Bert Vaughn and Jesse Vaughn officiating. Music will be arranged by David Mashburn. Burial will follow in the West Union Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Brooks in charge of the graveside rites. Pallbearers serving include, J.B. Goering, Dennis Blankenship, Jackie Burns, Jerry Burns, Rob Snow, Micah Blankenship, Casey Parkman, and Matt Parkman. Honorary Escorts will include, Lewis Dobson, Carlos Barrios, David Bryant, Ricky Freeman, Dewey Dunaway, and Danny McGaskey. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8pm.
