Alton L. "Pedro" DeFoor age 82 of Calhoun died at 11:10 PM, Sunday, March 20.
Pedro was born June 7, 1928 , a son of the late Louis Edgar DeFoor and Jennie Mae Caldwell Defoor. Also, he was preceded in death by four brothers, J.E. DeFoor, Everette DeFoor, Otto DeFoor, and Tolbert DeFoor. He was a lifetime resident of Gordon County, and had operated several retail businesses. He was a talented local athlete and had participated in many events in the US Army; local industrial baseball and softball leagues; and was a member of the DeFoor Brothers basketball team. He was an avid golfer.
Pedro also was a member of the local American Legion, VFW, Moose Club, a lifetime member of the Calhoun Elks BPOE # 1883, a Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church near Resaca and had been recently been attending the Nellie Peters United Methodist Church.
Pedro is survived by his wife, Farris R. DeFoor of Calhoun; one daughter, Amy Defoor Burns and her husband Patrick of Dawsonville; one sister, Nettie Lou Hollingsworth and her husband Norman of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Connor and Ethan Burns of Dawsonville; sister-in-laws, Jane Defoor of Resaca, Pat Defoor of Calhoun, and Hazel Defoor of Calhoun; several nieces and nephews
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00p.m. Thursday, March 24th at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Jaris officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening March 23rd from 4 to 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be the nephews of Mr. Defoor.
Honorary Pallbearers include; Michael West, Bob Bates, Jimmy Payne, Lee Mathis, James Moore, Red Robbins and Johnson DeFoor.
