Pearl King

Pearl Norris King of Calhoun passed away peacefully at her residence, Tuesday, March 5. Pearl was born on July 3, 1924 in Canton, GA. Pearl moved to Calhoun with her family at a very early age, and has lived in Calhoun since. She was married to Raymond F. King on October 10, 1941, and lived a long and prosperous life with him until his death in 2008. She was also preceded in death by: her father, Walter Snow Norris; her mother, Alyce Stanley Norris and her brother, Herman Norris. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun. Mrs. King was probably best known as a sweet, caring person who was always concerned, always listened, and always offered good advice. The pride of her career was the establishment and thirty five year operation of the Town and Casual Shoppe, ladies apparel store, in Calhoun, where her unique sense of style and sophistication was gladly shared with her clientele and employees. She was community minded, and believed in serving in whatever capacity possible. She was an original member, and served a term as a president of the Pilot Club of Calhoun. She was an active member of the Elkettes for many years. She was a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Calhoun and the Harris Arts Center. She was avid in her support for education from the primary level to the college level. Her last, and most loved, legacy was to help found the “Friends of the GEM” in order to restore the old Martin/GEM Theatre, then to show her dedication in assuring that the GEM was properly restored, so as to become a vital venue and cornerstone for downtown Calhoun. Survivors include: her son, Ted Raymond King and his wife Theresa of Adairsville; her daughter, Ginger Alice King of Adairsville; a granddaughter, Leah Michelle King; two grandsons, Theodore Michael King and William King Davis; two step-granddaughters, Sarah Dobbs Ostuw and her husband Will of Calhoun and Christina Leigh Dobbs of Washington, DC; she is also survived by two sisters, Dixie Burton of Calhoun and Molly Harmon and her husband Jimmy of Kingston. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 7th at 1:00pm at Calhoun First Baptist Church with the Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Joe Harmon, Justin Harmon, Thad Burton, Chris Burton, Zack Burton and Avery King. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 6th from 5 – 7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Gem Theatre in Calhoun. You may leave the family online condolences at www.thomasfuneralhomecalhoun.com.
