Mrs. Pauline "Polly" Baker Burnette, age 88 of Calhoun, passed away Friday evening March 11th at her home following three weeks of declining health. Polly was born in Calhoun on February 6, 1923. Daughter of the late Ed and Mamie Harris Baker. She was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church, the Gordon County Historical Society, the Calhoun Lions Club and the Sequoyah Garden Club. Polly had loved her work in several different companies making bedspreads and draperies and prior to her retirement was employed at Crown Craft. She had a passion for sewing, quilting, and embroidering. She loved working her flowers, cooking, and making sure she had something to give anyone who visited her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank Burnette. Two brothers; Hoyt Baker and James Lloyd Baker. She is survived by four children; Don Cooley and his wife Sandy of Fairhope, Al., Brenda Boswell and her husband Edward of Calhoun, Pat Autry and her husband Dan of Calhoun, and Jimmy Burnette and his wife Helen of Sugar Valley. Grandchildren; Chip Cooley, Chad Cooley, Dena Autry Wofford, Mike Burnette, John Boswell, Russell Boswell and Michelle Chapman. Great- grandchildren, Morgan Cooley, Jay Cooley, Bristol Wofford, Matthew Burnette, Madden Burnette, and Brynn Boswell. Several nieces, nephews as well as her special friends that she considered family, Jim Lay, Darren Gunter and her neighbors, Julian and Jimmie James, Barbara Pinion, and Calvin and Louise Caldwell. Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 14th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Clifford Free and Jim Lay officiating. Special music will be provided by Russell Boswell and Doug Roebuck. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Dr. Bert Vaughn in charge of graveside rites. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Escorts will include; Julian James, Estes Pass, Calvin Caldwell, Darrin Gunter, Billy Taylor and Eddie Taylor as well as members of the Calhoun Lions Club. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 until 8pm.
