Paul William Schmidt, age 89 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his residence.
Paul was born on February 26, 1925 in Blue Island, IL. He was the son of the late Paul L. Schmidt and Edith Lembcke Schmidt. He was a member of the St. Clement’s Catholic Church. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII, serving in both the African and European Theaters. Paul was a member of the Mid-West Operating Engineers Local #150, VFW Post #7232 and American Legion Post #53 in Eau Claire, WI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Nischik Schmidt; and siblings, John Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, Fran Schmidt, Catherine Ladd and Tom Schmidt.
He was survived by his two sons, Daniel Schmidt of Eau Claire, WI and Joseph Schmidt of , FL; six daughters, Marge Ronk of Calhoun, Paulette Chaparro and her husband Henry of Conroe, TX, Mary Carter and her husband Roy of Auburn, GA, Arlo Casper and her husband Bob of Wichita, KS, Laura Primm and her husband Joe of Lawrenceville, GA, and Ann Shifferd and her husband Norm of Foley, AL; two step-children, Mike McMillion and his wife Barbara of Milton, FL and Elizabeth Ann Johnson and her husband John of Fall Creek, WI; brother, Michael Schmidt and his wife Jeannie of Richland, WA; sister, Rose Mary Ehlers and her husband Neil of Peotone, IL; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Tuesday, December 30th at 12 noon from the St. Clement’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Shaute officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Clements Catholic Church (875 Hwy 53, Calhoun, GA 30701).
