Mr. Paul Howard Ray age 85 of Cartersville, died Tuesday evening in the Cartersville Medical Center following an extended illness/.
Paul was born in Floyd County on March 12, 1925 son of the late Paul Lester and Annie Maude Williamson Ray. He attended Plainview Baptist Church..Mr. Ray was a veteran of WWII and the Korean wars serving in the U.S. Army with a total of 7 1/2 in the paratroopers and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received Purple Heart and Bronze Star and other citations. Mr. Ray had lived in Dekalb County for a number of years where he was a Real Estate Broker but had made his home in Cartersville since 2001. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Decatur, Ga. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucetta Swenk Ray, a son , Reginald (Reggie) Ray in 1988 and a brothers, Stanley Ray and Guy D Ray.
Survivors include his wife of 53 Lois Thomas Ray of Cartersville, a daughter; Paulette Phillips of Rome, a son; Wayne Ray of Cartersville, a brother Donald Ray of Merced California, eight grandchldren, Stevie Ray and babies of Gwinett City, Renee Phillips, Teresa Scott, Lori Phillips, Robert McGarity, Billy Phillips, Richard McGarity and Camden Ray, also 8 great-grandchildren and a special person who has been in the family for 2 years. Funeral services will be conducted at 11;00 A.M. Friday October 1st. from the Plainview Baptist Church with Rev. Larry and Rev. Gary Hibberts officiating . Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
On friday the body will be carried to the Church to lie instate from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour at 11:00. Pallbearers serving include Richard McGarity, Robby McGarity, Chase Phillips, Stevie, David and Eddie Thomas and they are asked to meet at the Church at 9:45 A.M. Friday
Linda Cantrell will have charge of the music.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday Evening.
