Patsy Ann Nelson Owens, age 81 of Calhoun died, Monday, July 3 at Gordon Hospital. Patsy was born in Gordon County, September 18, 1935, daughter of the late John Joseph Nelson and Grace Rosella Goodson Nelson. Also, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Owens, Jr, three grandchildren, and two brothers, Ed Nelson and John Joseph Nelson, Jr. In addition, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters in law, Charles T. Owens, Christine Balliew, and her husband, Floyd, Pauline Davis and her husband, Hugh Don, Ernest B. Owens, and James E. Owens. Patsy was a lifetime resident of Calhoun and Gordon County; a graduate of Calhoun High School Class of 1953, and a member of the Belmont Baptist Church. She was employed for over 36 years by the local US Department of Agriculture, A.S.C.S. office. Patsy is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Owens of Calhoun and a son Mitchell Owens of Rome; several brothers and sisters in law, Geneva Owens, Betty Jean Owens, Evelyn Owens, Dolly McEntyre, Dimple Darnell and her husband Edward, Kenneth Owens and his wife Debbie, Linda Galloway and her husband Jimmy; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 7 at the Echota Baptist Church with Dr. Brent Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday at Thomas Funeral Home, and burial will be in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Reed Davis, Edward Owens, Robert Owens, Chad Owens, Kenny Fuquea, Gary McEntyre, Brennan Galloway, and David Woods. Honorary pallbearers are her special friends and much loved caregivers, Sandra Strickland, Michelle Strickland, Kelly Craig, Kim Franklin, Amada McGuire, Tammy Thomas, and Pam Thomas. Additional honorary pallbearers are Haley Owenby, Randy Thomas, and members of the Esther Sunday School Class of Belmont Baptist Church. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice. Thomas Funeral Home has charge of arrangements for the services of Patsy Ann Nelson Owens.
